Marrying Again: Why an Elopement Fits a Second Wedding

A second wedding does not have to look like the first one, smaller.

A lot of people who have already done the big day — or who never wanted one — come to the South West for something that matches the life they have now. Kids. A dog. Parents who are older. A guest list they refuse to rebuild. A wish to be married without hosting anyone.

That is a very good reason to elope in Margaret River.

You already know what you do not want

The second time around, the fantasy is usually clearer.

Not a reception that runs until midnight. Not a bridal party out of obligation. Not a year of planning that pulls focus from the actual marriage. You want the legal part done properly, a place that feels like a trip, and photographs you will still like.

An elopement gives you that without asking you to shrink a traditional wedding until it feels polite.

The legal side is the same, with one extra document

If you have been married before, your celebrant will need proof the previous marriage has ended — a divorce order, or a death certificate. That sits alongside the usual Notice of Intended Marriage, lodged at least one month before the ceremony.

It is not complicated. It does need to be started in time. Nikki will tell you exactly what to send. You do not need to explain your history to a room full of people in order to be married again.

Who gets to be there is a cleaner question now

Some couples bring their children and no one else. Some bring parents as witnesses. Some bring nobody and tell people afterwards with the photographs.

There is less pressure, the second time, to perform a version of family that does not fit. Choose the people who make the day feel like home. Leave the rest for a dinner later, if you want one.

The South West does not need your backstory

Beach, forest, vineyard. The landscape does not care whether this is wedding number one or two. It just needs you to show up in clothes you can walk in, say the words, and leave time for the light.

That is often a relief. You are not recreating anything. You are standing in a new place with the person you chose.

Photographs can be simple on purpose

You do not need a shot list that proves this wedding was “enough.”

We will walk, talk, and pause where it looks good. If you have kids or a dog with you, they come into the frames when it is easy, not when a timeline demands it. If it is just the two of you, that is a complete gallery.

A different kind of celebration

Lunch. A quiet room. A glass of something local. Maybe a party back in Perth next month that is clearly a party, not a second ceremony.

Keeping those separate is how a second wedding stays the thing you wanted — intimate on the day, generous later if you feel like it.

If you are marrying again and you want the South West to hold it without the noise of the last plan, tell us who would be there and the feeling you are after. We will keep the paperwork straight and the afternoon light.
