Camera-Shy? You Don’t Need to Know How to Be Photographed

If the idea of wedding photos makes you tense, you can let that go.

You do not need to be good in front of a camera. You do not need a list of poses. You do not need to “act natural” on command. That is my job.

On an elopement day in the South West, I will guide you through it in a way that feels easy — walking, talking, standing where the light is already doing the work. Nothing stiff. Nothing that asks you to perform.

You just have to show up

I will tell you where to walk. I will move you into the right light. I will get you laughing at something small so your faces do something real.

Most of the time you will be looking at each other, not at me. That is when the photographs start to look like the day, not like a photoshoot.

If you freeze, we slow down. If you feel awkward, we walk again. There is no version of this where you have to figure it out on your own.

No big posed set pieces

I am not going to stand you on a rock and ask for twenty angles.

The pictures I want are the easy ones: the two of you moving through trees or along a beach, the in-between moments, the look you already give each other when nobody is watching. I will steer that. You do not have to invent it.

The place helps

Margaret River light is soft if you use it properly. Forest shade, late coastal sun, a bit of wind in your clothes — that does more for a photograph than any pose.

You get to be in it. I get you into the right pocket of it. That is the whole trick.

If you are nervous, say so

Tell me at the start. I already work with couples who hate having their photo taken. It is normal. It is not a problem I need you to solve before the ceremony.

We will keep the time relaxed, keep the direction simple, and keep it fun enough that you forget I am there for stretches of it. Then you look at the gallery later and think, that actually looks like us.

That is the aim. Not to turn you into people who love posing. Just to get you married in the South West and send you home with photographs that feel easy — because the taking of them was.
